MITCHEL P. GOLDMAN, M.D., Medical Director
Mitchel Goldman M.D. is double-board certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon, recognized by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He is a volunteer Clinical Professor in Medicine/Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego and the founder and Medical Director of Goldman Butterwick Keel, Cosmetic Laser Dermatology.

A graduate of Boston University (Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and Stanford University Medical School, Dr. Goldman is especially renowned for pioneering research on multiple laser techniques, skin rejuvenation, and vein therapy. He is the Director of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship Program and has practice/hospital affiliations with Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. Dr. Goldman was the Founder and Past President of the American College of Phlebology, Past President of the San Diego Dermatological Society, Past President of the Sonoran Dermatology Society and has served on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Pacific Dermatology Association, American Venous Forum, the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and Board of Governors for Stanford University School of Medicine.
- He also serves as a member of over 30 professional societies and as a medical consultant to numerous companies, including Ortho-Neutrogena Dermatologics, Allergan Skincare, Obagi Medical, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc., Medicis Pharmaceuticals, Lumenis Laser Corporation, New Star Lasers, Sanofi-Aventis, Galderma, and many others.
- Dr. Goldman is considered a leading medical authority as the author of 18 medical textbooks on cosmetic and laser surgery, dermatology, sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, and cellulite several of which are considered definitive medical texts in their respective fields—as well as over 300 peer-reviewed medical publications. Dr. Goldman is an Associate Editor of numerous medical journals including: Dermatologic Surgery, Cosmetic Dermatology and Venous Digest and he has co-authored a number of medically oriented books for the general public regarding teenage skincare, leg rejuvenation and proactive approaches to aging.
He lectures both nationally and internationally on innovative surgical and treatment techniques, and is a recipient of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery’s “21st Century Achievement Award.” Dr. Goldman currently resides in La Jolla, California.
KIMBERLY J. BUTTERWICK, M.D.Kimberly J. Butterwick, M.D. received her specialty in Dermatology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1989, and is today recognized as one of the most renowned skin care experts in the country. Double-board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, she is considered a leading authority in injectables, filler technology, lasers, and liposculture.
Dr. Butterwick has been referred to as the nations premier “expert injector,” serving on the advisory boards for Allergan’s Juvederm, Medicis, Bioform. In addition, she is a consultant and national trainer for Sculptra- the newest FDA approved cosmetic filler in the U.S.
Dr. Butterwick is also renowned for her expertise in tumescent liposculpture. She has served on The Council of Liposuction Safety for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the Liposuction Task Force for the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Butterwick has been on the forefront of facial volume restoration. Dr. Butterwick was also elected by her peers to the Board of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Liposuction Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
In recognition of her extensive accomplishments and profession experience, Dr. Butterwick has earned the honor of being named one of America’s Top Physicians in 2003 and 2006 by the Consumer’s Research Council of America and Best Doctors in America from 2007-2009. Her clinical studies have been published in nearly 50 peer-reviewed medical articles and book chapters. She has given well over 200 academic presentations. Dr. Butterwick has also served as a lead consultant with respected companies such as Olay and Pfizer to launch principal skincare products into the market.
Dr. Butterwick enjoys the unique distinction of having been selected for the American Medical Women’s Association Award for Academic Excellence in 1981, the year of her graduation from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Butterwick completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with academic distinction.
Dr. Butterwick’s outside interests include playing with her son, running, and reading good novels. She enjoys traveling and is conversant in Spanish. She and her husband, Dr. Jonathan Scheff, reside in La Jolla with their son, Jacob.
DOUGLAS M. KEEL, D.O.is a Board-Certified Dermatologist with vast experience in laser and surgical procedures. He returns to his wonderful hometown of San Diego to join GBK Dermatology after serving as the Head of Navy Dermatology in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for three years. Dr. Keel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and was the recipient of the Resident Research Award in Surgical Applications by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Keel is exceptional in treating and preventing the damaging effects of the sun, as well as having expertise in many other areas of cosmetic surgery and dermatology.
Dr. Keel completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of California, Irvine, and his medical training at The University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth where he graduated with honors, and was elected into the Psi Sigma Alpha national medical honor society. Following a one year internship in San Diego, he was selected and trained as a Flight Surgeon at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. He served as an F/A-18 and CH-53 Flight Surgeon for three years in El Toro, California, before returning to the Naval Medical Center, San Diego for his Dermatology Residency.
Dr. Keel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and was the recipient of the Resident Research Award in Surgical Applications by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Committed to research, he has authored and published numerous manuscripts for prestigious medical journals, and actively contributed to several clinical and cosmetic laser trials.
DIANA BREISTER GHOSH, M.D. is a plastic surgeon Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the San Diego Plastic Surgery Society. Staying loyal to her local background, most of her medical education and practice has remained in the Southern California area.
Dr. Breister Ghosh completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego, and her medical school training at New York Medical College. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she received her training in Plastic, Aesthetic, and reconstructive Surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Breister Ghosh was afforded the honor of staying on as clinical faculty at the University of Southern California and the City of Hope Cancer Center both located in Los Angeles.
After a successful tenure at the City of Hope, Dr. Breister Ghosh returned to her native San Diego, where she has cultivated a flourishing practice in aesthetic surgery. She performs many aspects of aesthetic surgery including: Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift (mastopexy), Abdominoplasty , Eyebrow Lift, Blepharoplasty, Face/neck Lift.
MONIKA KIRIPOLSKY, M.D.is a board-certified dermatologist, having earned that distinction through the American Board of Dermatology after completing a three-year residency in dermatology at University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to specializing in dermatology, Dr. Kiripolsky completed her intern year training in internal medicine/critical care at the University of California-Irvine and the Long Beach Veterans’ Affairs Hospital. A California native, Dr. Kiripolsky earned her Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from the Honors College at the University of California – Los Angeles.
She attended Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine, during which time she was awarded a position in their Medical Scholars Program. This entailed pursuing a year of funded clinical research in between her third and fourth years of medical school. She also spent a portion of her training in a dermatology clinic in Barcelona, Spain. Her research has focused on various dermatology-related projects, concentrating mainly upon cutaneous lymphomas, basal cell carcinoma, and lymphomatoid papulosis. Dr. Kiripolsky’s current research projects are related to sclerotherapy (treatment of leg and other veins), the use of various fillers and botulinum toxin preparations, as well as the use of various lasers for treating skin discoloration, scarring, and wrinkles.
Dr. Kiripolsky is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the San Diego County Medical Society. Dr. Kiripolsky sees all dermatologic conditions, but she particularly enjoys pediatric dermatology, cosmetic and laser procedures, surgery (including liposuction), and medical dermatology (including skin cancer screening/treatment, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and connective tissue disorders).
Dr. Kiripolsky’s interests outside of work include distance running, traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is conversant in Spanish and enjoys practicing her Spanish whenever she has the opportunity.
JENNIFER D. PETERSON, M.D.joins Goldman Butterwick Keel Dermatology of La Jolla as a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Peterson was born and raised in Houston. She graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
She attended medical school at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Texas and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Following medical school, she performed her intern year in internal medicine at her alma mater. Dr. Peterson is very interested in dermatologic research which is exemplified by her year as a research fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Dermatology which focused on autoimmune blistering disorders and atopic dermatitis. Following a year of research, Dr. Peterson returned to Texas for her three year dermatology residency at Texas Tech University School of Medicine and served as chief resident in her final year of training.
She has published numerous articles in dermatology and dermatologic surgery journals. Her presentations at dermatology conferences have resulted in several awards. During her residency, she twice won the Kenneth Nelner M.D. Resident Researcher of the Year Award. She served for two years as the resident representative to Texas Dermatologic Society Executive Council during her dermatology residency.
Dr. Peterson is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery. Her interests include sclerotherapy, treatment of varicose veins, fat harvesting and transfer, liposculpture, cosmetic laser surgery, Botox, and facial augmentation with fillers.
She and her husband live in La Jolla with their two Great Danes. Her interests include dressage horseback riding, yoga, learning to surf, and entertaining friends and family.
