Liposculpture
Liposculpture is a less invasive form of liposuction involving removal of localized fat deposits as a means of contouring the body.
Liposuction Versus Liposculpture
The main difference between the two is the instrument used. The instrument, called a cannula, is much thinner with liposculpture allowing the surgeon to artistically sculpt the body into a new shape using delicate instruments rather than simply sucking the fat out as was the case with the larger cannula and the old way of doing liposuction. The newer less invasive liposculpture is easier on the body, improves results and involves less scarring or incisions.
Tumescent Liposculpture
Tumescent Liposculpture is the most advanced technique of permanently removing excess fat deposits in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. It’s called tumescent (which means “to swell”) because the surgeon fills and swells the fatty areas to be removed with large volumes of special solution before the procedure.
This solution completely numbs the area due to the effect of local anesthetic, therefore general anesthesia or heavy intravenous sedation is not required. At the same time a substance called adrenalin constricts the blood vessels, reducing bleeding to negligible amounts. Fatty deposits are then removed using small straw-like tubes (the small cannula) connected to a suction apparatus or syringe.
What Areas Are Treated With Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is appropriate to treat many problem areas on the body. Those areas are the ones mostly resistant to diet and exercise. They include:
- Love handles
- Hips/thighs
- Buttocks
- Abdomen
- Back (mid and lower)
- Neck
- Arms
