Juvederm

Juvéderm is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in the body) used by our dermatologists to effectively soften those deep folds and lines that develop over time in the face.  The official approval by the FDA for Juvéderm is for nasolabial folds, or more commonly known as “smile lines.”  In addition to the nasolabial folds it is also very commonly used to plumpen lips.

Uses of Juvederm Injectable Gel

The primary use of Juvederm injectable is to add volume back to your face.  Over time, areas of the face naturally lose volume as a part of the aging process.  By injecting Juvederm into these areas we can smooth out wrinkles and folds by adding back that precious volume that has been lost.  The mechanism of action is different than Botox because as a filler Juvederm adds back volume whereas Botox Cosmetic simply stops muscle contraction.  Very different methods and different results.

Treatment With Juvederm

During your juvederm procedure our doctors will introduce small amounts of juvederm into the area where results are desired.  The juvederm will be injected by using a very fine needle to minimize pain or discomfort during the treatment procedure.  The

During the JUVÉDERM procedure, a small needle is used to inject tiny amounts of filler under the skin in the areas to be treated. Topical anesthesia may be used to lessen discomfort. If necessary, the doctor or nurse may massage the treated area.  Afterwards you may experience some very minor side effects including swelling, redness and some tenderness.  These side effects do not last more than a day or so.

Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra & Juvederm Ultra Plus

Juvederm (hyaluronic acid) is available in 2 different versions currently.  The different versions are very similar but it is important to know the difference.  Juvederm Ultra Plus is a thicker version of the Juvederm injectable gel.  Having a ‘thicker’ gel is useful for deeper lines in your face and capable of filling in those wide areas whereas regular Juvederm is meant for finer lines and wrinkles.  So think of Juvederm Ultra Plus as just a thicker version of the original Juvederm injectable gel.
