How do facial vein laser treatments work?
Lasers are the most effective treatment for erasing veins on the face. Lasers deliver precise dosages of energy to each vein, with minimal risk to the surrounding skin. During the treatment, light energy is delivered through a special handpick to the targeted vein. Then the energy is absorbed by the blood vessels. The heat and energy absorption causes the blood vessel clog and is slowly absorbed by the body.
There is little to no discomfort after the laser treatments. In some cases patients may experience some swelling, redness or blistering, and the skin might feel tender for a few days. However, applying ice to the treated area can help to minimize swelling and inflammation. Our doctors will answer any post procedure questions you may have.

Facial Vein Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does it take to do a treatment?
A: Treatment sessions for veins are generally set for a fixed amount of time, usually 20-30 minute sessions.
Q: How many treatments does it take to see results?
A: The number of treatments can vary based on several factors including the size and depth of the vein. Usually multiple treatments (2-5) are require to produce pleasing results.
Q: What causes facial veins?
A: We do not know all of the causes of facial veins, but they are often related to heredity, sun exposure, oral contraceptives, hormone therapy or the aging process. Facial veins can also be related to rosacea, another treatable skin condition.
Q: What are spider veins?
A: Spider veins are very small and usually red or blue in color. They are much closer to the surface compared to varicose veins. They can look like a thin red line, tree branches or a spider web. Spider veins can be found on the legs, face, and may cover a small or large area.
Q: Do facial vein treatments hurt?
A: In general pain is minimal. Many patients say the laser treatment feels like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered. If you want, a topical anesthetic can be applied to further reduce the amount of pain. After the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
Q: Will the veins return after a laser treatment?
A: Optimal results can be maintained if you apply sunscreen to the treated area and avoid excessive sun exposure. Over time it is possible for new veins to grow in, but these too can be treated and erased.
Q: Are laser treatments safe on the face?
A: Yes, lasers have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. Laser systems treat only the targeted vessels, leaving the surrounding tissue intact.
Q: Are there any side effects to removing blue temple veins in your 30′s?
A: Around the age of 30 is when patients start to notice the blue veins around their temples and eyes with thinning of the skin, and is who we commonly treat. The procedure is relatively safe in the right hands, and in less than 5 minutes a long-pulsed 1064nm Nd:YAG laser can shrink the blood vessel, making it barely perceptible. Blood flow is redirected to the multiple surrounding veins, so it is not a problem.
